1,026 miles
With probably one run left for me in 2011—judging by how slow my body is recovering from a couple hours of tennis yesterday—I think I will be able to pass 1,031 miles in 2011. I’m tired.
I got the most out of the miles I ran in 2011, but I expect I may even be able to get to 1,100 or 1,200 miles in 2012. And not because I’m going to run three marathons instead of two. In...
Quotes from my grandparents
It’s a good thing I love my family.
She told me that she was there for her friend who was a prostitute.
…Sometimes some words get mixed up.
I’ll teach you about preferred stocks if you teach me Facebook.
…How many octogenarians do you know on Facebook?
Your priorities tomorrow are 1. tennis clinic 2. meeting up with that girl and 3. dinner with us.

My top 5 favorite runs of 2011
In the past I have done this post as a top 10 list, but this year, there was not much to separate what would be those runs 6 - 10. I have even left off my two marathons—Boston and MDI—from this list, not because they were not important, but because I have talked about those runs more than enough. Here are my top 5, in order, from 2011.
5. 21 Miles - 2/20/11 - DFMC Group Run: This was...
The Tosh.O marathon. Looks a lot more fun than the Newton hills.
On yesterdays basketball brawl in Cincinnati
Strong words from the head coach of University of Cincinnati Basketball, Mick Cronin.
If my players don’t act the right way, they will never play another game at Cincinatti. Right now, I just told my guys, I’ll meet with my AD, and meet with my President, and I’m going to decide who is on the team going forward…I made everyone take their jersey off and they will not put...

One in 16,000
This year there will be 16,000 new patients treated at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
My sister will be one of them.
Just over a month ago, Blair had an aggressive tumor removed from her ovary. A few days after this initial shock, we were fortunate to learn that the cancer was caught early. A CT scan showed no signs that the cancer had spread, and we were told that Blair’s cancer can be treated...

I'm fundraising for the first time this winter...
To reply to @Motivateyourass:
I’m fundraising for the first time this winter-any tips that have worked for you?
What are you raising money for? Make sure you connect your cause to your donors. They will likely be asked by a lot of people so make them/their money/ and what they can do to help you very import—and understandable.
Write thank-you notes and send them to your...
Excited to be a part of something BIG, heck,...
This was posted today on the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge runner’s bulletin board. We’ve got a long way to go, but I know we will be there some day. Great words, Chris.
I just want to say how excited I am to be a part of this. I spend most of my time on my job and family, it is a very different experience for me to be working towards something bigger. Bigger than myself and bigger...

Finisher's medal, bib numbers, or race shirt?
I have about 14 race medals hanging in my room, some old race bib numbers just lying around, and so many race shirts I can’t even keep them all at my apartment. So far, more than all those things that are given out at races, my favorite memorabilia item from any race is a NO STOPPING sign. It’s one of the classic ones. Collected this one just before the 2010 Boston Marathon. It will be...

Road Race Popularity Reaches an All-Time...
And other headlines you could expect to see about the New York City Half Marathon $128 entry fee. Not doing that one. I will run a NYRR half in 2012, but most likely the Brooklyn or Queens.
This is right about the time that a lot of people begin training for the Boston Marathon. So who will I be following on Tumblr this winter?
This year I’m considering increasing my fundraising goal from...

Study spurs new progress on AIDS vaccines
Efforts to prevent AIDS have been hampered by a biological roadblock: the failure of experimental vaccines to spur the production of effective antibodies against HIV-1, the virus that causes AIDS in humans.
When HIV-1 enters the body, it mutates rapidly. In just one week, it evolves more in a single individual than the influenza A virus does in an entire year all over the world. The immune system...
