Miami Half Marathon race report
Officially: 1:53:18. Which makes it my 2nd fastest half-marathon by 12 seconds. I think it could have been a little faster, but that’s not what today was about. No, today was just a fun way to spend my birthday. I know some of you would also schedule a race on your birthday, but I did so for a number of reasons—the weather and accommodations were at the top of that list.
The good...
Life at 25
This year is all about getting back to starting line. 1:53:18 today in Miami. More on the race later, but now back to sitting by the pool.
Looking forward to the next race, next starting line, next accomplishment.
Racing
What are your feelings going into a race? Personally, I am always excited. If you’ve PR’d, run your first 5k, finished a marathon, then you know there is nothing thats better than the starting line, and even nothing better than the finish line. I am so pumped for the Miami half.
Did you decide to run Miami?
You found something better? Probably not. Well…I’ll be sitting on the beach Sunday morning, after the half marathon. Then, after I sit out for an hour or so, I’m going to find the best breakfast spot in Miami Beach. All I have in front of me is 13.1 miles, mid-70’s temps, and a sunny day. I need it. Pictures after the race.
Derry, you'll need to do better than that to break...
Totally epic 24 hours. I advise you to not try this at home. The run this morning, and the party last night, all added up to exactly what I needed in the last week of being 24.
I don’t often take the time to reflect—it hasn’t been my nature in the past few years—but I had a lot of miles today to think over some things. Primarily what I want to do to change my attitude...

Long runs and long weekends
Here is a running update since I feel like I am back at a happy place with my training. I just hope it stays that way. Well I think with the sports massages, stretching, a 13 mile run, and a long weekend to recover I should be ready to up my miles to 25 this week.
Seems like I got in a lot this past week—3 days skiing in Colorado, Thursday night 9 mile run, and knocking out 13 miles on the...
New Balance Funding Boston Snow Removal
Yes. But. Not really. It’s funny that it’s not, “New Balance Funding Boston Snow Removal And Ice Clearing.” I only ran skated about 200 yards before I knew I wouldn’t find the Charles River path cleared.
Okay, I’ll give New Balance a break. We did receive 12+ inches of snow in Boston.

Running Has Taught Me...

Do it because you want to and not because someone wants you to.
Yes. That’s why I’m doing anything to get back to Boston and go for a run. Too many days without a run but skiing was a good change of pace. Will.run.hotel.stairs.if.I.get.stuck.in.Denver.

Just signed up for a 30-min clinical massage. Or, what I’m hoping for, a world of hurt so I can cope with a nagging IT Band. What did you think I was going to say? Please — get your mind outta the gutter.
Are flip cameras allowed? It is going to hurt so much when that elbow goes deep into my thigh. I just want you all to see how much of a wimp I really am. If I survive this, it will...
2011
Over the last six months I feel like I’ve had to deal with a lot of disappointments. Each failure, or moment coming up short, continues to motivate me though. I think I’ve gained this perspective from running: There’s always another mile, another starting line, and hopefully another PR to reward the hard work. So of course I doubt myself sometimes, but I know I just need to lace...
