Welcome back Jacqueline Gareau...wait, who? →
Does the name Rosie Ruiz ring a bell? Since the 1980’s, that name has been synonymous with cheats, and is currently one of the stories people ask me if I’ve heard about. Right, I’m training for my third Boston Marathon, but no one ever told me about Rosie Ruiz. Really? Well, no one told me how her life spun out of control after the 1980 race. This photo kind of sums it up: Rosie...
Where America Stands
We didn’t get snow. No, we got a sheet of ice.
– The runner training for the marathon that will have to go inside for the next two days because everything in Boston is now a sheet of ice. Please find me a clear place to run.
Race for Haiti
…and it’s a shame no one will be watching the Pro Bowl. But, I’m taking Chris Johnson in the 40. Could be a major upset, though. Ochocinco did beat a horse in a race.

Who would win the race?
Chad Ochocinco

Chris Johnson

Holding back tears
Every year I’m reminded to watch Jim Valvano’s emotional speech from the 1993 ESPY awards. And last night, I was reminded once again, that 17 years later his words still hold so much meaning. If you have never seen his speech, and have somehow forgot that you should never give up, just watch: Jimmy V ‘93 ESPY’s.
I have been brought together with so many people and for a...
The Promise
“I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season. You will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season. You will never see a team play as hard as we will play the rest of the season. God bless.” - Tim Tebow

DFMC Group Run #4
Did I have a great 16 mile run Saturday morning? Well, does everyone try and create a Jersey Shore nickname? I think Mike ‘The Situation’ would say yes. My run was pain-free, fast, negative splits, Gu-ey, sunny, and really just a nice run on River Rd, Water Row, Lincoln Rd, Concord Rd, Sudbury Rd, just past Verrill Farm and back.
Leaving the club, I started chatting with fellow DFMC...

I am definitely a fan of this. →
I am a life-long Bostonian—true to my roots and the culture of the city—but let me be one of the first to say that we need this. And I’m talking about a city that does not like change, or billions spent on big projects, so I am fully aware that I’ll be a minority supporter of Boa.
This only adds to the Financial District/Waterfront/North End areas that I already enjoy...
Starting to regret skipping the Miami Half...

Entries at this point are up 20 percent over 2009 and it’s expected that more than 18,000 persons will do either the 26.2-mile or 13.1-mile races. Runners are great drinkers. But drinkers are not great runners.
– Psyched for the beer and pizza that awaits me after a Crossroads run tomorrow night.

Sights: B train crashed into a car just leaving the Boston College stop. I blame the driver—or both.
Sounds: “Ughhh, ughhh, ughhh, pssttt, ughhh…” - Runner breathing heavily and awkwardly, I guess, behind me.
Smells: BMW SUV muffler blew and horrible smelling fumes, plus a cloud of smoke was billowing from the back. The type of stuff that makes breathing difficult.

Today's lesson.
Field trip to the Newton hills: 16 mile run.
…stretch and gym tomorrow.
quote du jour
notparticular:
“Know why people run marathons? he told Dr. Bramble. Because running is rooted in our collective imagination, and our imagination is rooted in running. Language, art, science; space shuttles, Starry Night, intravascular surgery; they all had their roots in our ability to run. Running was the superpower that made us human - which means it’s a superpower all humans possess.”

been much better since my fall. I slipped on some icy steps and hurt my back, elbow, and neck—nothing three straight days of loading up on tylenol extra strength won’t cure. I ran 17 miles over the past two nights, have a full day of skiing ahead of me, and will need to find some time for stretching before a 14 mile training run, Sunday.
I am also amazed at the support of my...

Put it on the board...yes!!
Disclaimer - Not a White Sox Fan. But, couldn’t think of a better title for my first run of 2010—in fact that call is damm annoying. Well to the run, that I absolutely needed—mind and body—to kick off the new year.
