My Favorite Runs of 2009 - Part II
The thrilling conclusion to my favorite runs of 2009. Part II. Enjoy.
DFMC Group Run 3/28/09 – BC to Natick and back: I haven’t been faced with a more daunting run then this one on the last Saturday of March. Running the toughest part of Marathon course twice definitely got in my head. I had eclipsed 20 miles on a run only two weeks prior, so there was really no reason to be intimidated this...

My Favorite Runs of 2009
My first run of 2009, Jan. 4, a 4.4 mile loop along Beacon St—kicked off a year that I would run in one Marathon, five Half-Marathons, and cover more than 900 miles out on the road in six different States. Here are some highlights from my favorite 2009 runs.
DFMC Group Run - Mt Auburn Club 2/28/09: My longest run to date, well ever at the time, 18.58 miles from Watertown out to somewhere in...

Most played running songs of 2009
A quick run through of my most listened to running songs of 2009—these songs fell into just about any playlist I had, any distance, any run with my iPod.
Kid Cudi - Day ‘N’ Nite
T.I. - What You Know
Wiz Khalifa - Say Yeah
Nas - Hero
Jay Z - Run This Town
Call it the year of hip-hop—but nearly every run—I placed these songs toward the end of a playlist as a...

I haven’t run since Saturday, the 19th of December. I opted for a week of cross-training, which consisted of workouts Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday, with time on the precor, followed by stretching, followed by lifting and abs. I skied Friday, and haven’t hit pavement for a run in over a week.
I want to get in a good week before 2010, therefore I’ll open with a five mile run...

Is Running Bad for Your Knees? Maybe Not
hjluks:
In one well-known, long-term study conducted at Stanford University, researchers tracked nearly 1,000 runners (active members of a running club) and non-runners (healthy adults who didn’t have an intensive exercise regimen) for 21 years. None of the participants had arthritis when the study began, but many of them developed the condition over the next two decades. When the Stanford team...

Malcolm Gladwell and Simmons - Gladwell - Simmons III: Hug Life — Gladwell brought up tupac poetry.
Going to pick up my new Nike Lunar Glides tonight. Nike just sponsor me already—new deal through 2010 Boston.
My Tumblarity is in the 20’s! And, I bet, down to the low teen’s tomorrow. Thanks, new followers, not sure how to mention y’all....

Call from mom
Mom: You're not running tonight?
Me: Yes, I'm running.
Mom: Errr, why?
Me: Mentally, I just need to know that it can't get worse then this.
Mom: It's 13 degrees in Boston
Me: Well add the wind chill and it is more like 2 or 3 degrees
Mom: Well, just be safe.
Me: Of course.

24 hours later
Here’s what followed my Tuesday night run…
I spent a few minutes this morning thinking that I may have actually brought this “24 hour bug” upon myself. And I call this cold only a “24 hour bug” because I’m fully convinced that I can kick it before I wake up, Thursday morning. I trust my immune system to recover quickly.
If I could sum up my run last...

Jerry Seinfeld - on the NYC Marathon
Jerry: Well, better load up on some carbos before the race.
Roxanne: Oh, the Marathon is great! Isn't it?
Jerry: Oh...yes. Particularly if you're not in it.
Roxanne: I wish we had a view of the finish line.
Jerry: Ahh, what's to see? A woman from Norway, a guy from Kenya, and 20,000 losers.

DFMC Team Meeting #2
Four months and two weeks out from the 2010 Boston Marathon…here is my recap from the second Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team meeting.
In retrospect I could have stayed home tonight and had a healthy dinner instead of a slice of pizza [Pinos] and three cookies [credit?]. Make no mistake; the cookies at the meeting were great! But, if I stayed home, the obvious result is that I would have...

Sure it’s only Tuesday but have you thought about your weekend plans? If your jeans still feel tight from the extra serving of stuffing on Thanksgiving, you may want to fit in some extra exercise while having fun this weekend. Lucky if you live in Boston, there is plenty to choose from! Read more…
