#RunThisTown - New York
First run on the summer tour. A warm, mid-afternoon nine mile run to cross the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time, but, for a lack of better options, certainly not the best time for a runner. I think the entire city was also outside at this time—walking, running, sun-bathing, chatting among other dog owners, not paying attention to bicyclists, or waiting in line at the Frying Pan. It was...

There is a deeply meaningful marathon story I was hoping to share. A dream-fulfilling, first-hand account of a weekend that, by the time I crossed the finish line, left me out of breath, but also completely exhilarated. The type of story where, even if there were no astrological significance, I would still tell you that the moon and stars aligned in mid-April. If anxiety was going to keep me up...

So here goes....
The 2013 Boston Marathon is almost here. And it’s Friday. It’s 12:30 pm. It’s time to wrap up what the Marathon Challenge experience is all about. I leave it to my sister, Blair, to share her story. Thank you for being an inspiration to so many people and helping me raise more than $10,000 this year!!
My brother asked me to explain what the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge...

Then it hits
Thank you for the generous support you continue to show toward my 2013 Marathon Challenge. I am more than 80% toward my fundraising goal of $10,000. To make a donation, please go to my personal fundraising page www.rundfmc.org/2013/erick. Let’s get to $9,000 before Red Sox Opening Day, April 8!
For more years than I have been part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge, pediatric patients at the...

御世話になりました, DFMC
(O sewa ni narimashita, DFMC)
Each Friday leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon, I am turning my tumblr over to a friend, family member, or DFMC teammate to share and reflect. In this case, I truly feel that Justin Bourassa is D. all of the above. You may have never laced up your running sneakers with this man, but the fortunate few who have, will tell you that this is so much more than an...

A journey back in time
Each Friday leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon, I am turning my blog over to a friend, family member, or DFMC teammate to share and reflect. Jack Fultz has been coaching runners and building training plans for many years following his win in the 1976 Boston Marathon. I know that each DFMC runner, over the last 24 years, is greatly appreciative of the abundant wisdom he has bestowed on us. This...

THERE'S NOTHING LIKE IT
Each Friday leading up the 2013 Boston Marathon, I am turning over my blog to a friend, family member, or DFMC teammate to share and reflect. I have been a member of the unofficial Julie Nielsen (now Campbell) fan club since 2009, when she first joined DFMC. I’m so grateful for the many 20 mile runs we crushed and the amazing words she has shared here. #SixforSix.
There’s nothing quite like...

A successful weekend
The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge fundraising event that Mallory and I hosted was a great time! On top of just hanging with our great friends, we were able to raise more than $1,600 for cancer research at Dana-Farber.
After the event we grabbed Wendy’s late night. Good thing my body has learned to handle Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers. Certainly not the best to have the night before a long run.

This will be another date to remember
Each Friday leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon, I am turning over my blog to a friend, family member, or DFMC teammate to share and reflect. I am so happy to have some incredible people help me honor six years with DFMC. Thank you to my mom, Robin Kaye, for taking over RunThisTown on March 8, 2013. The one who has the toughest job on Marathon Monday, in her own words. #SixforSix.
Dates. We...

Thank you for the sign
I have found many interesting landmarks along the Minuteman Bike Path. There is the deteriorating, and oddly misplaced Lufthansa Sky Cart. The small parking lot of Mal’s trucks. Arlington High School, Trader Joe’s, and Jam’n Java. And, when running with the DFMC team, there are volunteers at water stops. After that, the miles, and my thoughts, are only interjected by other...

Happy 85th birthday Grandpa Joe
Out in the Florida sun I would learn tennis. Inside the air conditioned, Woodmont condo I would learn Microsoft Windows. Wherever we went, a bulky, old-school video camera would follow. No, this was not Bollettieri Academy. It was not a computer summer camp either. It was some place better that I had from a very early age. School vacations, summer breaks, holidays, and long weekends were always a...

New York Keeps Pulling Me Back Each Time (Part...
Time: 2 hours 2 minutes and 3 seconds (and more) Where: 12 mile loop around the city
There is this part of Manhattan, I know, somewhere close to west 47th St and 7th Ave that many others love about the city. I would rather hug Rex Ryan then spend any amount of time around this area. I’m sure you have heard of this place called Times Square. Well,...

New York Keeps Pulling Me Back Each Time (Part...
The final dream sequence within a dream within in a deeper, twisted dream, from the mind fuck that was Inception, suspended the feeling of time as much as I could patiently accept. Who really knows what a dream feels like from the back of a van that is careening off a bridge? That answer can likely be Google-searched; therefore, as one should politely do, I will save the dream synopsis and theme...
